We understand that there is some confusion about the appropriate times you are allowed to irrigate your yard landscaping and hope this message will provide additional clarification.
As previously communicated, the City of Houston has entered Stage 2 of its drought contingency plan and Harris County MUD 537 is required to follow the minimum water use restrictions and violation enforcement set by the City.
The city restrictions, combined with additional restrictions set by the MUD to reduce consumption at high usage times in our district (to help decrease the likelihood of additional boil water notices), ONLY allow for the use of sprinkler systems from 9 pm to 4:30 amaccording to the following schedule:
- Sundays and Thursdays for single-family residential customers with even-numbered street addresses
- Saturdays and Wednesdays for single-family residential customers with odd-numbered street addresses
HOWEVER, you ARE currently allowed to responsibly use a handheld garden hose to water flowerbeds or trees at any time of the day on any day.
You are also encouraged to try to refrain from heavy water usage (showers, dishwashers, washing machines) from 4:30-7:00 am and 7:00-9:00 pm which are peak usage times in our district.
Please be advised that any water customer who violates the restrictions will be issued a written warning for a first-time violation. Subsequent violations are subject to a fine of up to $2000 and the district reserves the right to turn off any irrigation systems that continue to not follow watering restrictions.
